I always found this theory of Japan surrendering in fear of Soviet invasion. Yes the Soviets cut right through Japanese forces Will suck dick for socialism shirt sweater in China, but I'm confident all 3 nations knew that a Soviet invasion of the Japanese home islands was impossible for years. The US had just pulled off D-Day with years of training and preparation, and had been conducting amphibious invasion against the Japanese throughout the Pacific, with great difficulty. The United States planned to use nukes in a tactical setting to assist Operation Downfall, and still were not sure it would work. The Soviets simply did not have the capability to launch such an incredibly complex and difficult invasion
